A surprise from McNabb & Risley’s vintage jewelry collection!
I love the edgy graphic handwriting on the super comfortable lounge chair featured above. Imagine coming home after a long day and sinking into a chair like this! Ahhhhh……
It’s a beautiful day in Thiensville and I hope you can all take a walk and enjoy nature. There’s beauty everywhere I look today!
In honor of Earth Day, our staff shares their favorite ways to go green:
We all recycle!
Angela: We heat our home with wood pellets. It’s a renewable resource and it really helps keep heating costs down!
Andrea: I use energy efficient light bulbs and 7th Generation green cleaning products.
Tara: I also use natural cleaning products, wash only full loads of laundry, grow my own herbs in the summer and use McNabb & Risley’s organic Gardener’s Soap!
Jim: I ride my bike whenever possible, shop at the local farmer’s market and drive a diesel Jetta that gets up to 50 miles per gallon on the highway.
John: I select a day when I don’t drive and when I do, I double up on my errands and trips as to not waste gas.
Ryan: When I lived in the city, I walked everywhere. I continue to do that in Cedarburg. It’s so nice to walk downtown to go to the movies or run simple errands; my wife and I make it into a family outing!
Jason: My wife and I have a vegetable garden.
Jessica: I use family friendly green cleaning products and I make all of my baby’s food.
Carol: I clean out my closets and donate clothes I no longer use.
Diane: I have a compost bin, buy my produce locally and use a coffee mug instead of disposable cups.
Kristen: I only leave one light on at a time in my house (a tip from my Mom)! I also only do full loads of laundry and hang my clothes out to dry whenever possible.
Happy Birthday John! We all helped John celebrate by bringing in some of our favorite home cooked dishes, including lasagna and garlic bread, pasta salad, veggies and dip, and of course, cupcakes!
Did you know that April’s birthstone is the diamond? While we don’t sell diamonds at McNabb & Risley, our vintage 1930’s Deco necklace is super sparkly and a lot less expensive than the real deal. As with all of our vintage pieces, there’s only one. You could be wearing this to your next big event or while you’re cooking dinner tonight!
This beautiful oval planter! This tin planter would look great filled with fresh greenery, gardenias or fragrant jasmine. It would be the perfect spring centerpiece for your kitchen table!
This dramatic accent chair takes design inspiration from a vintage style. The worn black finish and linen upholstery with handwriting is both modern and classic at the same time!
TARA’S TAKE ON DESIGN:
This stunning accent chair looks amazing when grouped as a pair. Try them on either side of a console or by the fireplace; it’s a look you could live with forever!
Our 10″ square plate featuring ephemera and a French chandelier is so stylish and will make a big statement on your cocktail table. There’s only one…
This striking area rug is a fabulous example of ephemera and one of my personal favorites. The rug features a neutral background with raised charcoal lettering, and the writing is a french poem! How romantic is that?!
Everyone I know is busy cleaning out their gardens and, as we all know, gardening can take a toll on one’s hands. If you haven’t tried our Shea butter soap, don’t walk, run to McNabb & Risley and treat yourself and your hands to this amazing soap. The soap is super creamy and leaves your hands feeling silky smooth. Best of all, it smells like fresh herbs with a hint of clove!
Spring is in the air and everyone longs to be in the garden!
Now you can bring the outdoors in with this neutral color scheme and ephemera garden toss pillows. Add a colorful area rug and you are set!

This French inspired buffet lamp has it all going on! The ephemera inspired linen shade is handcrafted and the heavy faceted crystals are super sparkly when you turn the light on. Beautiful!
TARA’S TAKE ON DESIGN:
Buffet lamps are designed to be used as pairs. There are very few design rules that can’t be broken but this is one of them. These tall, elegant lamps look fabulous on sofa tables, dressers and on servers. They can also look amazing on large scale mantels!
This three dimensional print is part of a pair and would be lovely placed at eye level. I love the brass bee; what a conversation starter!
Ephemera (ih-fem-er-uh) definition: Items of collectible memorabilia, typically handwritten or printed paper, that were originally expected to have a short term use.
Old post cards, calling cards, advertising pieces and greeting cards are now collectible and referred to as ephemera.
TARA’S TAKE ON DESIGN:
I love vintage ephemera and this photo collage of antique postcards I’ve collected years ago has inspired my blog for April! Ahhh…the handwritten note; is there anything more lovely?
