Dream design project – Gourmet Kitchen

To say I love this kitchen is a huge understatement!  Originally, my clients had an inspiration photo of a kitchen they liked but tweaked the design to their liking and to the specifications of the space.  Also, they were in love with an antique "service style" kitchen they saw in a San Francisco mansion and wanted incorporate some design elements they saw into their own kitchen.  I actually had little to do with the kitchen design and layout, however I was hired to focus on design aesthetics.  My contribution was paint selection for the cabinets and walls, floor stain, final countertop selection, hardware, tile, faucets, and antique lighting.  All home furnishings, oriental rug, art, and accessories are from McNabb & Risley.

Paul Apfelbach, of Phoenix Real Estate Inc., and Matthew Tollefsen, of A. Fillinger Inc., were the design geniuses behind this fabulous kitchen.  The cabinets were completely designed and handcrafted for this space and are fine furniture quality.  The incredible moldings and details were well thought out and proportioned perfectly to this space.  In addition, the kitchen ceiling was raised an extra foot to add more height.  Originally, the kitchen was made up of small chopped up rooms that were not connected to each other.  When the home was renovated in the 1950's the owner removed all the lead glass windows and installed picture windows throughout the back of the house and stained all the woodwork blonde.  Now the space is wide open, light and airy, with a magnificent view of the Milwaukee River.  The picture windows were removed and sliding doors and new windows were installed.  All the blonde woodwork was replaced by new millwork and painted a lovely shade of ivory.
