Working full time creating personalized environments for my clients did not prepare me for my biggest challenge, redesigning my own space!  Recently, I purchased a contemporary modular sectional, I was immediately drawn to the comfort and the relaxed style.  My next challenge was to design a space that I would want to live with for many years.  This was not an easy challenge considering the past forty years I have spent buying, collecting, and inheriting so many things that have become part of my everyday life.

For so long I wanted to "clean it up" so the speak.  Once I settled on the versatile modular sectional, I felt compelled to make the change.  My first step was to measure my room, then arrange the sectional so it made the best of my available space.  I added a large square ottoman which gave me extra seating and the flexibility to move it around.  The ottoman can be arranged as an extension of the sectional creating a chaise effect.  I also have four dogs and like most people our four legged kids need to be taken in account too!

Once my sectional shape and size was determined, I began formulating my new look.  I wanted to keep my sectional fairly neutral so that I could add art as my source of color.  I have many pieces of fine art that I have collected over the years and decided to add one new piece to be placed over the sectional.  My existing art will be used as support pieces.  My new large canvas from McNabb & Risley blends my existing collection into my new design direction.  To finish blending the old with the new, I built display cubicles into the wall that go floor to ceiling and added custom drapery.  Not only will this be a great home for media, it allows me to showcase pottery and sculptures that I have collected over the years in a clean contemporary setting.  That allows me to highlight my most treasured pieces so I can enjoy them every day!    -Michael D.
