Design Terminology 101: ab-stract art

Noun: abstract art. Plural noun: abstract arts. Art that does not attempt to represent external, recognizable reality, but seeks to achieve its effect using shapes, form, colors and textures.

I feel that abstract art adds a burst of color and energy to any interior, whether It be traditional, contemporary or eclectic. When considering an abstract for your home, my suggestions are as follows:

-Select something that “speaks” to you aesthetically
-Trust your instincts and purchase what you love, not something that compliments your furniture perfectly.
-Abstracts have the most impact when they are over scale, so go big when you can!

Don’t worry about understanding abstract art, it was created to be open to interpretation. Take note of the color, texture, pattern and composition and don’t over think it; abstract art is meant to be enjoyed!
